Sivunniigvik is located in the northern part of the Kobuk River delta, where Ugrivik River meets the Melvin Channel, approximately 30 air miles east of Kotzebue. The site was chosen by our Regional Elders Councils because of its relative high elevation (safe from high water and flood conditions of Spring ice break-up).  Camp Sivu's proximity to available wood for construction and heating fuel, running streams for good drinking water, isolated enough so that hunting, trapping and snaring for wild game would be available, as well as for boating, fishing, swimming and gathering berries and greens made this location ideal. It was also one of the few places not encumbered by an existing camp or Native Allotment.
