 Robert Aqqaluk Newlin, Sr. recognized that education was paramount to succeeding in today’s changing world. He aimed to provide access to higher education for the residents of the Northwest Arctic Borough. And today, thanks to his vision the Aqqaluk Trust is the most important source of educational funding for the NANA region.
The Aqqaluk Trust awards scholarships to NANA shareholders, their descendents & dependents that are pursuing college and post-graduate degrees and post-secondary education. The Trust enables Alaska Natives to pursue levels of educational and vocational achievement they might not otherwise have been able to afford.
The Trust provides financial support for Associates degrees, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degrees, Doctoral degrees and vocational training. Scholarships are issued based on a variety of criteria, including demonstrated commitment to Inupiaq values, prior academic performance, financial need and recommendations from others.
The Educational Scholarships enrich lives and makes the dream of education a reality.
