Privacy Policy for Pakak

Aqqaluk Trust’s texting application, Pakak, is a Inupiaq-led project aiming to empower communities to manage, share, narrate, and exchange their digital heritage in culturally relevant and ethically minded ways. We are committed to building Pakak in a way that fosters relationships of respect and trust between Aqqaluk Trust and all of our communities across the region.

We will not share or sell mobile contact information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Users reserve the right to change, remove, or delete any items that they submit with Pakak. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. If you are receiving text messages from us and wish to stop receiving them, simply reply with ‘STOP’ to the number from which you received the message. Pakak collects and stores the following personally identifiable information:

• Firstname and Lastname: We collect your name, so we can link your submitted archival items to your name.
• Phone Number: Your mobile, text-message capable phone. We use this number to maintain records of whether or not you are subscribed to Pakak. If you are subscribed to Pakak, someone from Aqqaluk Trust may follow up with you individually about your submitted items. This follow up will only include clarification and verification questions about archival items that you submit.
• Village: The name of your village, so we can keep track of where archival items are coming from across the NANA region. We only use this information to better understand where Pakak is being used.
• State: The name of the state of your village residence, so we can keep track of where submissions are coming from across the NANA region. We only use this information to better understand where Pakak is being used.
• Zip Code: Your zip code, so we can keep track of where submissions are coming from across the NANA region. We only use this information to better understand where Pakak is being used.
• User-Submitted Images:
  • All submitted images will be maintained and stored securely by Aqqaluk Trust. 
  • You have complete control over any submitted images, so you can contact us about removing any submissions from any current or future public sharing of submissions, such as a website or texting campaign.
  • Submitters can also request the deletion of their submitted items by contacting us directly at aqqaluk.trust@aqqaluktrust.com.

If you are represented in an image, and you would like to request the image be removed from potential public sharing, please contact us directly at aqqaluk.trust@aqqaluktrust.com.
